Herbert Home

At our Herbert project, we undertook the exciting challenge of converting a basement into a stylish, functional and cozy apartment. After 26 years in their beloved Beaches home, our clients sought to rethink their space, enhance their property’s value, and capitalize on Toronto’s thriving rental market. We began by lowering the basement floor and raising the ceiling to over eight feet, transforming the area from dark and cramped to bright and airy.

To ensure a welcoming atmosphere year-round, we installed large windows and layered lighting, complemented by a floor-to-ceiling mirror to amplify natural light. Modern comforts were introduced with in-floor heating and an on-demand hot water tank for efficiency.

The layout features an open-concept living area, two bedrooms (one serving as a versatile office/guest room with a Murphy bed), and a chic bathroom with unique Puzzle Murano tile work. Clever design elements include a hidden electrical panel, a stylish makeup table, and colour-drenched walls for a cozy feel in the main bedroom. Built-in storage and versatile furniture enhance both functionality and comfort.

This renovation not only boosted the home’s market value but also provided a flexible, future-ready investment. Whether for rental income, family visits, or personal use, this basement is now a valuable and adaptable addition.
